Moderntone was made by Hazel Atlas as early as 1934 and was offered in assorted colors. With the introduction of white Platonite glass in 1936, the pastel and vivid colors, fired on to white Platonite glass, debuted in the late 1930s and continued into the early 1940s. Pastel Moderntone was made in sets of pink, green, blue and yellow in the 1940s. Though retired in 1942, Moderntone had one last incarnation in the 1950s when Hazel Atlas used the pattern as the basis for its “Little Hostess Party Dishes”. This trio’s fabulous fired on color is called pink which trends toward a pale coral and is more translucent that opaque. Each cup measures 3¾” x 3¼” W/H; pedestal base diameter 2½”; capacity per cup 6 oz.; together the trio weighs 1 lb. 2 oz.; crafted from white moulded Platonite glass, an opaque glass that can be treated with various fired-on finishes; hand wash to preserve finish. This beautiful set is in excellent condition with vibrant color and little, if any visible wear. A fabulous little trio full of color to brighten up any tablescape!
