Exquisite and quite rare set of 19th century French graduated perfume bottles in an unusual melon shape with hand etched … Read more Exquisite and quite rare set of 19th century French graduated perfume bottles in an unusual melon shape with hand etched and cut crystal bottles with stoppers, unusual Mellon shape and heavy sterling lid and collar. Both lid and collar are hallmarked with the 1st standard hallmark signifying a higher level of silver than typically used elsewhere….. 950/1000 compared to English or American 925/1000. The smaller lids weigh just about an ounce and the largest is just under 2 ounces which makes them exceedingly heavy for their size (tops alone weigh 250 grams). The tops are edged with a beautiful hand chased laurel leaf wreath with berries with a small band of beading at top and bottom edge and a wonderfully plain inset awaiting your monogram. There is a maker’s hallmark but it is too small for me to make out.
The size given is for the single large bottle, the next size down is 3 1/2”x 6 1/4”H, the next is 3”x5 1/2” and the two smallest are 2 1/2”x 4 3/4”.
