The leather has great patina and is definitely early but possibly a later addition and has been stabilized at some point with fabric underneath. An identical example of this design (except for the upholstery) is in the Rijksmuseum collection in Amsterdam and that piece has impeccable provenance and has documents that prove it was manufactured in the years 1930/1931.
