The oval earthenware body is decorated with orange and cobalt blue flowers, and olive-green scrolling foliage against a creamy white ground. Yellow borders with brown diagonal detailing frame the lid and base.

The domed lid is topped with a beautifully modeled pear finial surrounded by green leaves, complemented by matching applied fruit-and-leaf handles at either end. The combination of cheerful color, traditional Italian craftsmanship, and dimensional decoration makes this a particularly appealing example of Florentine-style majolica.

JUNE'S THOUGHTS
This is the kind of piece that makes a dining table or kitchen sideboard feel special. I particularly appreciate the sculptural fruit handles and pear finial, which give it so much personality. This piece displays beautifully on its own.
