Design Plus Gallery presents a Pair of Strip Armchairs by Gijs Bakker for Castelijn. The chairs were designed in 1974 for the Dutch manufacturer Castelijn and are an iconic masterwork of Postmodern minimalist furniture. A pair featuring the rare integrated armrests is a highly collectible configuration of this historically significant design. The underlying concept of the Strip chair was to strip away all visual clutter and reduce a chair’s form down to its absolute, essential silhouette. The standard armless version is constructed using six continuous wide strips of laminated beechwood that are pressed into a mold with industrial glue and secured with internal dowels. They are both in good condition for their usage with minimal signs of wear for their vintage usage. Made in the Netherlands.
