A striking pair of vintage Bauhaus-style "S34" cantilever armchairs, originally designed by Mart Stam. Manufactured in Italy during the late 1980s to early 1990s, this pair was originally purchased from the iconic, upscale Midwestern department store, Dayton’s.
The chairs feature a continuous, brilliant tubular chrome-plated steel frame that offers the classic, comfortable cantilevered bounce. The thick structural white bonded leather panels are complemented by matching stitched armrest sleeves, lending a clean, minimalist silhouette that blends seamlessly into both Mid-Century Modern and contemporary spaces.
Condition Details:
Very good vintage condition. Both chairs have been thoroughly detailed and prepared for immediate use.
Upholstery thoroughly cleaned and touched up; on one seat a scratch and slight cut. The tubular chrome frames have been cleaned of minor surface rust and polished with a soft paste wax to provide lasting luster and protection. Structurally sound, sturdy, and highly supportive. Age-appropriate wear remains.
Both chairs retain their original "Made in Italy" labels.
