Antique Pearlware Blue Feather Edge Platter, English, Early 19th Century
A classic early 19th-century English pearlware platter with a molded feather edge and a hand-painted blue rim, also called a shell edge. The oval form, plain white center and crisp blue rim have always been popular with collectors of English ceramics and American country antiques. It looks good on a wall, standing on a plate stand on a sideboard or shelf, or layered with other blue and white pieces. Unmarked, probably Staffordshire, circa 1810 to 1840.
Material: Glazed earthenware (pearlware)
Dimensions: 15" L x 12" W x 1½" H
Condition: Good antique condition with honest age-related wear. There are minor utensil marks, pinhead-size glaze flakes along the edge, crazing and light staining. The platter does not sit flat, because of a raised, worn bump on the back, so it’s best displayed on a stand or hung.
