The body and the cream dial have developed a deep, even patina, and the clock has been checked and deep cleaned.

aeg, the allgemeine elektricitäts-gesellschaft, grew out of emil rathenau's deutsche edison-gesellschaft, founded in berlin in 1883 and renamed aeg in 1887. In 1907 the company appointed the architect and designer peter behrens as artistic adviser, giving him responsibility for its logo, catalogues, factories and products. His turbine factory in berlin, completed in 1909, is regarded as a landmark of modern industrial architecture. Clocks in this tradition share a plain visual language of a round steel case and large legible numerals, and hung in factories, offices and stations. This example is a later aeg clock that we date to around the 1960s. It follows the behrens-era design language, but it is not a behrens original.

the surface has been left as found. The clock was cleaned and checked and runs on mains power, but the paint has not been renewed, stripped or polished. It is covered by glass.

the clock shows strong natural patina and signs of use on both body and dial.

it is marked type fuwy on the plate inside and measures 36 cm in diameter and 8 cm in depth. The dial is cream with black numerals, black hands and a slim seconds hand.
