The top rail is straight then rounded at the ends and sits above three flat panels. The legs are straight and the integral arms are only slightly scrolled and enclose another flat panel. The seat lifts to reveal a deep storage well. An accomplished Hungarian folk artist has taken this early twentieth century bench and, with inspiration from his or her forebears, has copied the patterns, techniques, and colors of the period. His work is dated on the front panel, “1986”. The background is oxblood with black details applied in swirls and chain links in a glorious chaos of pattern. The rectangular panels present as cursive scribbles on an off-white background while the “arrowheads” appear to be populated with a stylized cuneiform pattern. It is a job very well done. The seat height is 20.5” See less
