Add a striking touch of classical Asian heritage and rich color to your decor with this vintage Chinese figural architectural roof tile. Dating from the early 1900s this salvaged ceramic piece features a beautifully sculpted mythical guardian beast or horse posed dynamically atop a traditional semi-cylindrical ridge tile.
The figurine is finished in a magnificent, deep monochromatic cobalt blue glaze that boasts a glossy sheen and a wonderful network of age-commensurate fine crazing. In traditional Chinese architecture, these figures were placed along the roof ridges of temples and formal residences to ward off evil spirits and protect the inhabitants within. Today, it serves as a sophisticated, sculptural accent piece perfect for bookshelves, mantels, or a curated global vignette.

There are minor cosmetic glaze chips along the bottom edges of the tile base (see photos), which are typical for authentic salvaged architectural elements of this era and do not detract from the structural integrity or display value of the piece.
