The washstand is surmounted by an elegant bevel-edged mirror, creating an attractive vertical presence while retaining the practical character of its original design. Below, a raised gallery frames the beautiful marble worktop, providing an elegant contrast against the warm tones of the walnut. The lower section incorporates a two-door cupboard, providing useful concealed storage. Particularly striking are the richly figured burr walnut door panels, whose dramatic natural grain adds considerable decorative interest to the front of the piece. The cupboard retains its original brass handles, while the original rails positioned to either side provide another interesting and practical period detail. The washstand is raised on elegant turned legs terminating in its original castors, allowing the piece to be moved more easily while adding to its authentic Edwardian character. Throughout, the walnut displays attractive natural grain, rich warm colouring and established character, beautifully complemented by the figuring of the burr walnut, cool marble surface and reflective bevelled mirror. Although originally designed as a washstand, today the piece could serve beautifully as a dressing table, vanity, decorative console or statement storage piece within a bedroom, dressing room, bathroom or sophisticated interior. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. A highly desirable example of Edwardian furniture, combining richly figured burr walnut, a marble top, bevel-edged mirror, original brass fittings and castors within an elegant and exceptionally decorative design.
