The lantern centres on a substantial bell-shaped tinted glass shade, formed with pronounced vertical segmentation and a defined lower rim. The glass is complemented by a ventilated bronze lower finial, giving the piece an architectural quality while retaining the elegance associated with traditional bell jar lanterns. At the upper section, an original three-handled gilt metal neck rim supports the suspension chains, while a decorative tinted lid plate incorporates deeply moulded relief ornamentation, an upper decorative plate and internal suspension tray. The original gilt brass chain continues to the matching ceiling plate, creating a cohesive period appearance. A heavy brass E27 Edison screw bulb holder is incorporated into the fitting. The lantern has been professionally rewired using three-core fabric-braided cable, earthed and tested, and is in working order. with its generous proportions, coloured glass and warm gilt-metal detailing, this is a particularly decorative statement light suited to an entrance hall, stairwell, dining room or reception space.
