Constructed from traditional blackened leather, the helmet features polished nickel-coloured fittings, a fixed spike and the distinctive bavarian state wappen, depicting the crowned coat of arms supported by opposing lions. The interior retains its original leather liner and spike reinforcement disc, while a period-style replacement chinstrap has been fitted to the m95 posts. Of particular interest is an ink-applied marking to the inside rear visor, interpreted as “3 j.r.” and consistent with an association with the 3rd jäger regiment or a related bavarian formation. As this appears to be a field or soldier-applied marking rather than an official arsenal stamp, the regimental connection is presented as an attribution. The blackened leather shell displays attractive age-related lacquer checking, wear and patination, while the metal fittings have developed further character consistent with the helmet's considerable age. A highly evocative piece of imperial german and bavarian military history, retaining strong original character and particularly attractive heraldic decoration. Condition: good antique condition with age-related wear and patination. Original leather liner retained, replacement chinstrap and visible internal marking. Provenance: private collection.
