The substantial rectangular top features a beautifully inset brown leather writing surface, providing a comfortable and practical workspace while creating an attractive contrast against the warm tones of the surrounding mahogany. Five practical drawers are arranged across the front, with two drawers positioned to either side of a central drawer. This well-balanced configuration provides excellent storage for stationery, correspondence and other desk essentials while maintaining an elegant and symmetrical appearance. All five drawers retain their original handles and fittings, preserving the established character and authenticity of the piece. The writing table stands on graceful cabriole legs terminating in beautifully carved claw and ball feet. These distinctive supports provide considerable decorative interest and demonstrate the quality of craftsmanship found throughout the table. The mahogany displays particularly attractive natural grain, rich warm colouring and appealing tonal variation. Combined with the brown leather writing surface, the timber gives the desk a sophisticated and timeless appearance. Very well made and of good quality, the writing table combines substantial traditional construction with refined decorative detailing and practical everyday functionality. At 102 cm wide and 51.5 cm deep, the table provides a generous working surface while retaining versatile proportions suitable for a study, home office, library, bedroom or living space. The combination of richly figured mahogany, inset leather, five practical drawers, original hardware and carved claw and ball feet makes this an especially attractive example of Edwardian furniture. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. A highly desirable Edwardian mahogany writing table combining elegant craftsmanship, practical storage and beautiful materials within a timeless and functional design.
