The generously proportioned writing surface provides an excellent practical workspace, while the raised gallery creates an attractive architectural finish and provides additional storage without compromising the elegance of the design. The upper section incorporates a single-door cupboard to either side, providing useful concealed storage for correspondence, stationery and personal items. A large central drawer beneath the writing surface offers further convenient storage. The cupboards and drawer retain their original brass handles and fittings, providing attractive period detailing and complementing the warm tones of the mahogany. Particularly appealing is the decorative inlay. Fine satinwood and ebony stringing embellishes the drawer front and cupboard doors, creating an elegant contrast against the deeper mahogany and accentuating the clean architectural lines associated with refined Edwardian furniture. The writing table is raised upon slender tapered legs terminating in castors, creating a light and beautifully balanced silhouette while allowing the piece to be repositioned more easily when required. The mahogany itself displays pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Deep, warm colour and an appealing aged patina give the timber considerable richness and character, beautifully complemented by the contrasting inlay. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its early 20th-century Edwardian origin. At 122.5 cm wide, the table provides a substantial working surface while retaining elegant proportions. Its combination of enclosed upper storage, a large central drawer and generous knee space makes it particularly suitable as a writing desk, study table or sophisticated dressing table within a library, study, bedroom or drawing room.
