Executed in the romantic tradition of the Art Nouveau period, this generously proportioned antique presents an extraordinary interplay of color, sculptural form, and intricate ornamentation, evocative of the finest decorative porcelain produced in Germany at the turn of the 20th century.

The beautifully modeled interior features an elegant composition of ivory-white and pale yellow daffodils, their delicately shaded petals and slender green foliage enhanced by raised enamel accents and finely detailed gilt outlines. The floral arrangement emerges against a remarkable cobalt-blue ground that gradually transitions into luminous shades of powder blue. Elaborate gilt scrollwork, stylized foliage, delicate starbursts, and finely executed botanical motifs enrich the surrounding surface, creating a captivating interplay of texture, light, and ornament. The deeply scalloped, gently undulating rim is finished with an elegant beaded gilt border, while the exterior displays graceful, petal-like fluting in lustrous white porcelain.

Stylistically associated with the celebrated ornamental porcelain of the Schlegelmilch manufactories of Thuringia, Germany, the bowl reflects the exuberant decorative vocabulary commonly associated with Prussian-style porcelain of the period. The underside is unmarked, and a definitive factory attribution has not been established. Its elaborate molded form, graduated cobalt decoration, and extensive gilding exemplify the sophisticated craftsmanship and artistic sensibilities of European porcelain design during the late Victorian and early Art Nouveau eras.

Measuring 10 inches in diameter and 3 inches in height, this substantial antique centerpiece offers a commanding decorative presence, equally compelling displayed upon a formal dining table, grand entryway console, or within a finely curated collection of European porcelain. Its striking coloration and exuberant floral composition embody the timeless elegance and artistic sophistication of the Belle Époque. See less
