The shaped crest rail is enriched with scrolling foliate carving and pierced detailing, leading to an open splat composed of slender vertical elements centred by a prominent carved floral patera. Sweeping open arms terminate in subtle scrolls and are supported by elegantly curved uprights, giving the chair a particularly refined silhouette. The broad serpentine-fronted seat is upholstered in an attractive floral textile in muted shades of cream, ochre, rust and green, complementing the rich warm tones and naturally developed patina of the mahogany frame. Raised on shaped legs terminating in brass castors, the chair retains an appealing sense of period character. The castors remain in excellent working order and roll smoothly. A handsome and highly decorative Victorian armchair with excellent presence, suitable as an occasional chair for a drawing room, bedroom, library or sophisticated country-house interior. Presented in very good antique condition with expected minor marks, wear and patination consistent with age and use. The upholstery remains clean and presentable.
