Designed to be viewed from all angles, the table features a functional drawer to the front together with a corresponding faux drawer to the reverse. This thoughtful arrangement creates a balanced and symmetrical appearance, allowing the table to stand freely within the centre of a room rather than requiring placement against a wall. The functional drawer provides convenient concealed storage for stationery, correspondence and smaller personal items and retains its original knob handles. The table is raised upon four elegantly turned legs terminating in brass castors, providing a graceful silhouette while allowing the piece to be repositioned with relative ease. Particularly appealing is the mahogany itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Deep, warm colour and a mature patina developed through generations of age and use give the timber considerable richness and authentic period character. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 19th-century origin. The combination of its freestanding construction, compact proportions and finished reverse makes this an especially versatile and desirable writing table. Ideally suited as a writing desk, library table or occasional table within a study, drawing room, library or sophisticated contemporary interior.
