The table features a beautifully shaped, serpentine-fronted top with a richly figured timber veneer arranged in an attractive symmetrical pattern. The highly decorative surface is complemented by an intricately pierced and pierced-metal gallery running around the rear and side edges, together with elegant cabriole legs and ornate gilt-metal mounts. The front is fitted with three drawers, each incorporating decorative brass escutcheons and fittings. The apron and drawer fronts continue the geometric and figured veneer decoration of the top, creating a cohesive and sophisticated appearance. The unusual conversion or original purpose of the piece as a giant tea caddy makes it particularly interesting to collectors of unusual antique furniture. Its generous surface and compact proportions also allow it to function effectively as a writing table, console or occasional table.
