This is a striking, large-scale vintage porcelain basin (or brush washer), crafted in the style of Song Dynasty Ru ware (Ruyao). The vessel features a shallow, rounded form with a flared lip and rests on three short, stylized legs. The exterior is decorated with raised studs (bosses) around the circumference.
The piece is covered in a beautiful, pale greenish-blue celadon glaze with a prominent, fine crackle (crazing) pattern. The interior is spectacularly decorated with a large, gilt-incised motif of two confronting dragons flanking a flaming pearl. The interior also features vertical lines of elegant gilt calligraphy and a red seal mark. A prominent oval gilt cartouche on the interior base reads "Da Song Ru Yao Yu Yong" (Imperial Use of the Great Song Ru Kiln). The underside shows a reddish-brown clay body with a central red mark. This visually dynamic and richly decorated piece makes a stunning statement in a living room or study.
