The table incorporates three practical drawers across the front, providing useful storage for stationery, documents and writing accessories while maintaining the elegant proportions of the design. All three drawers retain their original brass handles and fittings, providing attractive traditional detailing and complementing the rich tones of the walnut. The table stands on beautifully shaped cabriole legs, enriched with finely carved knees and feet. These elegant supports give the piece a graceful silhouette while demonstrating the quality of craftsmanship evident throughout its construction. Particularly noteworthy is the exceptional burr walnut figuring. The veneers display dramatic natural patterns, gorgeous grain and rich warm colouring, creating considerable visual depth and making the timber itself one of the principal decorative features of the table. Fine crossbanding further defines the surfaces, providing an elegant border to the richly figured walnut and adding another level of decorative sophistication. At 107 cm wide and 53 cm deep, the table provides a generous working surface while retaining practical proportions. A knee height of 59.5 cm provides comfortable clearance when seated. Its combination of elegant proportions and richly decorative veneers makes the piece equally suitable as a writing desk within a study or home office, or as a sophisticated occasional or library table within a living space. Presented in good vintage condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 20th-century origin. A highly desirable burr walnut writing table combining exceptional figured veneers, decorative crossbanding, three practical drawers, original brass fittings and beautifully carved cabriole legs within an elegant and timeless design.
