The set comprises a hand mirror, hairbrush, pair of clothes brushes, cotton wool jar and cover, oval jewellery or pin dish, and a substantial dressing table tray. Each of the principal pieces displays an attractive **planished finish**, formed from a series of subtle hand-hammered marks that create a softly textured surface across the silver. This restrained treatment gives the set an elegant arts and crafts-influenced character while allowing the quality of the silverwork to remain prominent. The hand mirror, hairbrush, clothes brushes, jewellery dish and dressing table tray bear **london hallmarks for 1900–1901** together with the maker’s mark for william comyns & sons, one of the most celebrated london manufacturers of luxury silver dressing table accessories. The cotton wool jar and cover is a slightly later addition, hallmarked **london 1918** and made by **charles henry dumenil**, a silversmith particularly associated with dressing table and vanity wares. The pieces are engraved with the initials **“s h” or “h s,”** with the exception of the dressing table tray, which remains uninitialled. The set has an impressive **combined net sterling silver weight of approximately 900 grams**, excluding the non-silver components incorporated into the gross-weight pieces. All components are presented in very good antique condition with only minor age-related surface marks. There are no noted bruises, damage or repairs. An impressive and highly decorative collection of english dressing table silver, particularly notable for the substantial number of matching william comyns pieces surviving together as a set.
