The substantial silver mount is beautifully worked with elaborate repoussé decoration, incorporating classical acanthus leaves, suspended swags, rope-twist connections and scrolling foliate and floral motifs, all finely rendered in relief. Gadrooned and beaded borders provide additional definition, giving the frame a particularly rich and architectural appearance. A central shield-shaped cartouche remains vacant and free from personalised engraving, preserving the elegant decorative character of the piece. The reverse incorporates a traditional easel support and retains its original-style blue silk covering, providing an attractive contrast to the polished sterling silver mount. Presented in very good antique condition. There is a small bruise to the inner beaded rim, as illustrated in the photographs. Otherwise, there are no noted holes, splits, significant damage or repairs, and the piece remains free from later engraved presentation inscriptions or monograms. A highly decorative example of late Victorian English silverwork, distinguished by the quality and variety of its repoussé ornamentation and beautiful bright patina. Clean and ready for display. Easel back.
