Originally designed for use within the textile industry, the machine incorporates a large rotating winding reel alongside a multi-spindle bobbin arrangement, with numerous period wooden bobbins still retaining lengths of coloured yarn. The combination of exposed ironwork, aged timber, thread and mechanical fittings gives the piece an extraordinary sense of its original working history. Constructed around a substantial cast-iron and steel frame, the machine has developed a wonderfully authentic factory patina over decades of use. Areas of surface oxidation, worn paint, grease residue and naturally aged metalwork remain visible throughout, giving it precisely the untouched industrial character increasingly sought after for decorative interiors. The surviving yarn bobbins are particularly attractive, with muted shades of blue, cream, black and ochre introducing subtle colour against the dark aged machinery. The large geometric winding reel provides a dramatic counterpoint to the upright spindle assembly and makes the piece visually interesting from virtually every angle.
