The generously proportioned rectangular top provides an excellent writing and working surface, making the desk particularly practical for a study, library or home office. Nine drawers provide an exceptional amount of concealed storage for documents, stationery and personal items. Each retains its original brass handles, providing attractive period detailing and preserving the authentic character of the piece. The central kneehole section is particularly interesting, incorporating a thoughtfully fitted arrangement of six pigeonholes. These provide convenient organisation for correspondence, paperwork and stationery while adding considerable character and functionality to the desk. The desk is supported upon a substantial plinth base, creating a strong and beautifully balanced architectural silhouette while providing excellent stability. Particularly appealing is the pine itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Warm honey tones and a mature patina developed through generations of age and use give the timber considerable depth and authentic period character. Very well constructed and presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. The combination of nine drawers, six pigeonholes and a generous writing surface makes this an exceptionally practical period desk. Its relatively compact 116 cm width also allows it to provide extensive storage without requiring the footprint of a much larger pedestal desk. Please note that the desk is of single-piece construction and does not dismantle. Its dimensions should therefore be considered carefully when planning access and transportation.
