The rectangular workbox opens to reveal a carefully fitted interior comprising a series of practical storage compartments, traditionally intended for sewing, needlework and personal accessories. The internal fittings can be removed when required, allowing the compartment to accommodate larger items. The box is supported upon an elegant reeded pillar base, a particularly attractive Regency-inspired architectural detail that gives the piece a graceful and sophisticated silhouette. The mahogany displays pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout, complemented by deep, warm tones and a mature patina that enhances its authentic period character. Compact proportions make the piece particularly versatile, allowing it to function today as a workbox, sewing table, occasional table or highly decorative accent piece. The workbox retains its original key and is presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 19th-century origin. A rare and highly decorative example of Regency furniture, combining practical storage with refined craftsmanship and an elegant sculptural form.
