A handsome and beautifully proportioned early 20th-century Edwardian desk, crafted in richly coloured mahogany and combining generous storage, an excellent working surface and elegant traditional craftsmanship. The desk features a classic green writing surface, providing a practical and attractive workspace while creating a striking contrast against the deep, warm tones of the surrounding mahogany. Nine drawers provide an abundance of useful storage, thoughtfully arranged with four drawers to either side and a larger central drawer positioned above the kneehole. This traditional configuration offers ample space for organising stationery, documents and everyday office essentials. Each drawer is fitted with decorative brass handles, providing an elegant contrast against the mahogany and complementing the traditional character of the desk. The desk stands on a substantial plinth base fitted with castors, allowing this generously constructed piece to be repositioned more easily when required. The mahogany displays particularly attractive natural grain, rich warm colouring and appealing tonal variation throughout, giving the desk considerable depth and established character. Very well made and of good quality, the desk demonstrates robust construction and careful craftsmanship throughout. Its balanced proportions provide a generous working area while retaining a relatively compact footprint suitable for a wide variety of interiors.
The central kneehole measures 38 cm wide by 58 cm high, providing a practical seating position beneath the writing surface. At 107 cm wide, the desk is particularly versatile, offering the substantial appearance and extensive storage associated with a traditional pedestal-style desk without requiring the considerable space of larger examples. The combination of nine drawers, decorative brass handles, green writing surface, plinth base, castors and richly coloured mahogany makes this a particularly handsome and practical example of Edwardian office furniture.
Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. A highly desirable Edwardian mahogany desk combining extensive storage, quality craftsmanship and elegant period character within a practical and beautifully proportioned design.
