A handsome and finely crafted early 20th-century English Edwardian writing table, beautifully constructed in richly figured mahogany and distinguished by its elegant proportions, generous drawer arrangement and graceful cabriole legs. The table incorporates five useful drawers, arranged with two smaller drawers to either side and a larger central drawer positioned above the kneehole. This configuration provides excellent practical storage while maintaining the balanced and refined appearance of the piece. All five drawers retain their original decorative brass handles, providing attractive period detail and complementing the rich tones and natural figuring of the mahogany. The table stands on elegant cabriole legs, creating a graceful silhouette characteristic of refined Edwardian furniture. Their flowing form gives the piece a lighter appearance while maintaining a sturdy and well-balanced construction. Throughout, the mahogany displays particularly attractive natural figuring, rich grain and warm colouring, giving the table considerable visual depth and character. The quality of the timber and restrained decorative detailing contribute to its sophisticated appearance.
At 101 cm wide and 54 cm deep, the table provides a generous working surface while retaining practical proportions for a variety of interiors. A knee height of 63 cm provides comfortable clearance when seated. Its versatile scale makes it particularly suitable as a writing desk within a study or home office, while its elegant appearance allows it to function equally well as an occasional or decorative table within a living room, library or bedroom.
Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. A highly desirable Edwardian writing table combining beautifully figured mahogany, five practical drawers, original decorative brass handles and elegant cabriole legs within a refined and timeless design.
