It is built lower to the ground and without armrests—a traditional design intended to give a mother complete freedom of movement while nursing, rocking a child, or doing handwork. 
Provenance & Family History: A cherished family heirloom that originally belonged to my great-great-great-grandmother, who became a mother in 1860. And was used and passed down with each girl born. My great great grandmother used for my great grandmother, and she with my grandmother and my grandmother with my mother and my mother with myself.
