Dating to circa 1880, this handsome horn is distinguished by its contrasting brass and copper tones, which emphasize the craftsmanship and elegant proportions of its long, slender form.
Coaching horns were traditionally used to signal the approach and departure of horse-drawn coaches and became closely associated with the English coaching tradition. This example bears the Distin trumpet trademark and is stamped "Boosey & Co., Makers, 295 Regent St., London," together with serial number 25793.
At 44 inches long, it makes a striking decorative statement. The metalwork, with its interplay of parallel golden brass and warm reddish copper lines, creates a subtle decorative rhythm along the length of the horn. Its warm metallic tones would be particularly attractive in an English country house interior, library, study, or equestrian-themed setting, whether displayed on a wall or resting on a stand.
England, circa 1880.
