Two glazed monkeys crouch back to back on a cobalt blue base, their arms linked around a stem of tropical greenery and sprays of wheat, and together they hold up a fluted clamshell bowl. The monkeys' faces are crackle glazed in cream with dark eyes. The shell is glazed in ochre, brown, and cream, with the glaze pooling and running down the ridges in a mottled, tortoiseshell-like drift.

Made in the late 20th century, the piece measures 9.5" wide, 9.5" deep, and 8" high. Use it as a cachepot for a small potted plant or paperwhites, or as a centerpiece bowl for fruit, shells, or a few small objects. It also stands on its own as sculpture, on a dining table, a console, a bar cart, or a shelf. Made of glazed ceramic with a majolica-style finish, it suits Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, Coastal, and Safari rooms, and maximalist interiors in the style of Dorothy Draper and Tony Duquette, where wit sits beside drama. The underside has felt pads, a faint impressed outline, and a handwritten number, 13.
