An exceptional and rare find for the traditional decorator: a matching set of four late 19th-century blue and white transferware plates from the celebrated "Catskill Moss" series by Ridgways (circa 1894–1900).
Each 9-inch plate proudly displays the historic "Fairmount Gardens" view of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The beautifully crisp blue transfer print showcases stylized strollers traversing a bridge walkway alongside a cascading, tiered central fountain with the famous Fairmount Water Works nestled in the background terrain. Each central scene is perfectly bound by an ornate, heavy molded rim that features magnificent relief details of floral wreaths, scrollwork, and basketweave patterning typical of this elite series.
Every plate features a pristine underglaze blue backstamp on the reverse, flanked by the unique "C.C." insignia denoting Charles Cartlidge—the premier 19th-century distributor responsible for importing these premium British views onto American shores. Finding a uniform set of four in this flawless state is increasingly difficult, making them an excellent display statement or a functional addition to a curated dinner service.
