Constructed in tin over steel, the bath has the distinctive sculptural form associated with 19th-century portable bathing, featuring a raised back, gently shaped body and traditional rolled rim. The surface has developed an exceptionally attractive patina through generations of use and ageing. Layers of wear, oxidation and surface variation combine with the softly faded interior to create a rich and highly decorative finish, preserving the object's authentic Victorian character. Originally designed as a practical bathing vessel, its generous proportions and unusual organic form now make it particularly appealing as a decorative object. It could also be repurposed as a substantial drinks or champagne cooler for entertaining, filled with ice and bottles, or incorporated into a garden, conservatory or event setting. Beyond its decorative potential, the bath represents an evocative survivor of Victorian domestic life and changing approaches to personal bathing during the 19th century. Presented in antique condition, with substantial surface wear, oxidation, fading and patination consistent with its age, materials and original function.
