Antique English Slant Top Bible Box Desk Stand Jacobean Carved Oak Lectern c1890.
Direct from England, a beautiful antique English oak slant top Bible Box or lectern, with intricate hand carvings throughout both the box and the original matching carved base.
The impressive slant top and upright back panel feature a continuous pattern of deeply carved flowers, sweeping acanthus leaves and flowing foliate scrolls, beautifully highlighted against the darker recessed background.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a spacious interior with two charming small drawers, each featuring carved circular floral designs and decorative brass drop pulls. Traditional dovetailed construction and original-style iron hardware add to the character of this distinctive antique piece.
The original matching oak stand features beautifully carved floral and foliate designs across the front and side aprons, with decorative carvings extending down all four of the gracefully tapered legs.
Well built by craftsmen of the period, of solid oak, with a lovely, aged patina, c1890. Ideal for an entryway, hallway, living room or study, this distinctive slant top English Bible box offers both decorative appeal and practical storage.
