Not odd, but it is rare for us to come across a cupboard that combines such a narrow width with shallow depth and a height of seven feet with astragal-glazed doors and more than two drawers beneath. We have called it a bookcase because of its shallow profile, but it could equally be used to store linens, toys and games, bottles and jars (at home this dealer uses a glazed cupboard for storing jars of beans and grains, like an old-fashioned pantry), paper goods and so on. Three tiers of molding create a bold crown, the only wooden detail on an otherwise plain piece. The doors open about 100 degrees. Each door has eight panes of patterned glass ( not one large pane visually divided by astragals as is sometimes the case). One pane is replaced. The inside space is divided down the middle with three shelves each side providing four generous storage spaces. Beneath are four hand-cut dovetailed drawers with iron bail pulls. The dark feature between the bottom drawers is not a crack or any other damage. It is not recessed, but rather is a figure in the wood to which we have drawn attention. See less
