This vintage china cabinet is a tall, theatrical piece of chinoiserie craftsmanship, built from split and whole bamboo and rattan poles under a sweeping pagoda crown. The roof flares outward in a gentle, upswept curve, and its underside is clad in tightly packed vertical canes. The upper case has a pair of glazed doors with arched tracery, where nested rattan arches rise like a stylized palace gateway above a crisscrossed Chinese Chippendale fretwork base. Behind the glass, a woven cane back panel adds texture. Narrow flanking panels are fitted with tall, pill-shaped glass windows, separated by small carved geometric medallions. Below, two shallow drawers with bamboo pulls sit above a pair of cabinet doors. Each door has a raised, diamond-shaped medallion of basket-weave cane framed in rattan, set against vertical canes. The bamboo glows in honey, amber, and deep cognac, with darker tones at the joints and edges. A mellow, aged patina covers every surface, and the stepped plinth base is worn and darkened. The whole piece feels grand, handcrafted, and unmistakably Palm Beach.
Statuesque and versatile, this cabinet suits a dining room, living room, sunroom, or entry, where it can display china, glassware, books, or collected objects, with closed storage below. It complements Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, Coastal, Boho Chic, and Palm Beach Chic interiors. The cabinet measures 53 inches (1346 mm) wide, 18.25 inches (464 mm) deep, and 83 inches (2108 mm) high. Condition is good: the original bamboo finish shows an age-appropriate patina with some fading, minor surface wear and scuffs, especially on the lower sections, and the cabinet is structurally sound. For care, dust with a soft brush or vacuum attachment, clean the glass with a lightly dampened cloth, and keep away from prolonged direct sun, heat, and excess moisture.
