• Era/Period: 1970s-1980s

A waterfall-edge desk finished in cream lacquer over a crocodile-embossed surface - the Hollywood Regency look that ran through high-end American interiors in the late 1970s and 80s. The top rolls over a continuous waterfall edge down each side to the floor, with two frieze drawers set behind recessed pulls.

At 45 inches it works as a writing desk, a vanity or a console against a wall.

ON THE ATTRIBUTION
This piece carries no maker's plaque, and we will not call it a signed Springer. It descends from a private collection whose owners furnished homes in New York and France and owned a number of Karl Springer pieces, which is why we say attributed rather than in the style of. It is not a signature. Signed Springer waterfall desks have brought several thousand at auction; unmarked examples in this manner sell for a fraction of that, and this is priced as the latter.
