An extraordinary find for the discerning collector or luxury entertainer, this exquisite set of 11 formal dinner plates represents the absolute pinnacle of French Belle Époque craftsmanship. Crafted by the elite porcelain house William Guérin & Co. in Limoges, France, these museum-grade plates date precisely to the Gilded Age / Edwardian period (circa 1900–1911).
Design & Artistry
Each plate features a radiant, brilliant white porcelain blank serving as the perfect canvas for a breathtaking, heavy raised-paste gold encrusted border. The masterful gilding showcases a dense, ornate neoclassical arabesque pattern filled with delicate floral filigree, scrolling vines, and an elegant, scalloped gold rim. The depth and texture of the hand-applied 24k gold leaf catch the light magnificently, offering a regal, majestic presence for a formal tablescape.
Exceptional Condition
While sets from this era commonly suffer from heavy storage wear or thinning gilt, this particular set is in exceptional antique condition. Exhibiting virtually no wear to the heavy gold encrusting, there are absolutely no chips, cracks, hairline fractures, or flea bites along the delicate scalloped rims. The porcelain retains its flawless, translucent gloss glaze, showing a remarkable state of preservation over its 115+ year history.
Historical Backstamps
The underside of each plate features a pristine dual-marking system that authenticates its provenance:
• The green underglaze factory whiteware mark (W.G. & Co. Limoges France inside the traditional scroll emblem).
• The elegant gold overglaze decorating studio stamp (Wm. Guérin & Co. France Limoges inside fine concentric circles), verifying its peak-era production before the factory's historic 1911 merger with Jean Pouyat.
