A striking American Art Deco electric mantel clock by Manning-Bowman & Co. of Meriden, Connecticut, dating to the 1930s. This exceptional Machine Age design combines bold architectural geometry, gleaming chrome-plated surfaces, and contrasting black panels, embodying the streamlined sophistication of the Art Deco movement.
The dramatic stepped skyscraper-form case features symmetrical chrome fins extending outward from the central clock face, creating a dynamic silhouette inspired by the architecture and industrial design of the period. The upper section is crowned with an elaborate sculptural floral ornament featuring stylized blossoms and foliage, introducing a decorative contrast to the clock’s geometric construction.
The circular dial displays distinctive Art Deco Arabic numerals, dark hands, and an intricately engraved floral center bearing the MANNING-BOWMAN signature. A smaller seconds hand adds visual interest to the beautifully detailed face.
The substantial chrome case is further enhanced by recessed black panels, stepped architectural detailing, and ornamental side accents. Its polished metallic finish and commanding vertical proportions make it an impressive decorative statement.
The reverse retains original manufacturer’s markings, including operating instructions, electrical specifications, patent number 1719805, and model identification K901.
A wonderful example of American Art Deco industrial design, this collectible clock would make a sophisticated addition to a mantel, desk, console, or curated collection of Machine Age decorative arts.
