The brass has a warm, aged gold tone with scattered dark patina throughout, giving it real texture and history. Beneath the brass cladding, the underlying body is painted a bold red, visible at the interior and along the base, a practical detail typical of coal or kindling boxes from this era, which were built to be sturdy rather than purely decorative.
