Late-20th-century Hekman Queen Anne Revival writing desk, crafted with richly figured walnut burl veneer and an exceptionally sculptural traditional form.
The generously proportioned oval/serpentine desk features a spectacular figured walnut burl veneered top, displaying highly dramatic grain movement throughout and surrounded by a contrasting dark walnut border and molded edge. The curved front is fitted with three drawers, each retaining its original decorative brass batwing bail hardware.
The desk is raised on four graceful Queen Anne cabriole legs, distinguished by finely carved shell-and-fan ornament at the knees and terminating in rounded pad feet. The carved knee details, serpentine apron, elaborate brass hardware, and exuberantly figured walnut create an unusually decorative interpretation of English Queen Anne furniture.
The drawers are constructed with oak secondary wood, and the original Hekman Furniture, Grand Rapids label is present inside a drawer, confirming the manufacturer.

The highly figured walnut burl veneer retains excellent color, grain definition, and visual depth. The original brass bail hardware is present throughout and exhibits natural patina. There are scattered surface scratches, small nicks, abrasions, and areas of finish wear, particularly along the top and edges, commensurate with age and use. The photographs also show localized finish wear and minor marks to the apron and legs, including small imperfections around the carved knee areas. The desktop has visible surface wear and finish irregularities, including light scratches and areas where the finish has become less uniform. These are cosmetic rather than structural in nature. The carved cabriole legs appear sound and structurally stable, with no obvious major breaks or repairs visible in the provided photographs. Drawers appear to operate properly, and the original hardware remains intact. less
