A pierced, asymmetrical crest rises above the frame, built from sweeping C-scrolls, acanthus foliage, and a central shell-and-feather cartouche topped with a floral finial. Tall, flame-like scrolled "ears" flank each side and spill downward into curling leaf forms. The same flourishes repeat at the lower corners, where open scrollwork lets the wall show through and adds a light, dancing silhouette. At the center, a rectangular mirror is surrounded by a mirrored border of angled, beveled glass strips, edged in a fine reeded gilt molding that gives the whole piece a shimmering, layered depth. The gilding glows in antique gold with deeper amber in the recesses and a soft, rubbed patina on the high points. The glass is clear, and the carving is crisp and fluid. The effect is dramatic yet graceful, with the sculptural frame doing the decorative work.
