Constructed from broad planks of wood, the board retains its original integral handle and bears an evocative collection of knife marks, stains, softened edges, knots, and variations in color. It rests on two long supports, giving it a bit of elevation from the counter surface.

Particularly appealing are the variations in finish—honest evidence of a useful object that was repaired rather than discarded. At nearly 30 inches long, it has enough scale to make a handsome decorative statement leaned against a kitchen backsplash, displayed in a butler's pantry, or hung among a collection of European kitchen objects. It may also be used as a serving board with appropriate food-safe preparation or a protective barrier.
