Elegant vintage Regency-style writing desk crafted in richly figured wood, believed to be yew, surrounding an inset reddish-brown leather writing surface with gilt-tooled border. The desk is fitted with three drawers, traditional brass bail pulls and locks, and four finely turned and reeded legs.
The figured wood displays attractive swirling and knotty grain throughout the drawer fronts and top surround. Drawer boxes are constructed in a lighter secondary wood with dovetailed joints. The leather has acquired a warm, characterful patina from use.
Exact date of construction unknown, but it has been in a family collection since at least the 20th century. Based on its construction and design, the piece appears to be a 20th-century construction of English Regency/Georgian writing table, as opposed to 19th century. A handsome and functional desk for a library, study, bedroom or home office.
