Pair of Jim Thompson Thai silk elephant pillows, circa 1990s, featuring double-sided printed decoration and matching flanged edges. Each square pillow depicts a richly adorned Asian elephant against a vivid burnt coral orange ground, enlivened by darker red flowering vines and scrolling foliage. The Jim Thompson name appears beneath the central composition.

Rendered in warm ochre and sandy beige, the elephants have ivory-colored tusks and raised trunks. Their elaborate ceremonial coverings combine sapphire blue, teal, and leaf green with golden-yellow borders, floral arabesques, and pendant tassels. Coordinating forehead bands, collars, and ornamental anklets reinforce the courtly imagery. A blue floral border, edged with cream scallops, frames each composition.

The imagery recalls the decorated elephants of Thai royal processions, associated with strength, prestige, and prosperity. The raised trunk carries a familiar decorative association with good fortune. Fine printed shading articulates the animals’ skin, folds, and ornamental details, while the silk’s soft sheen complements the saturated palette.
