The cusped arch is what draws you in: a scalloped opening framed by carved spandrels in a weathered, honey-brown frame, now filled with mirror glass in place of the original doors. Below it, a painted panel keeps traces of its original finish, a gold and ochre flowering tree in a green-black oval on a faded red ground. Arched windows like this were made in India as part of domestic architecture.
At 88 inches tall and 31 inches wide, this antique Indian window mirror is a tall, narrow piece for an entry, the end of a hallway or the wall opposite a window, where the arch can catch the light. It takes little floor, and the worn paint gives a neutral room one quiet point of color.
