Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb Furniture Co., this pair of American mid-century modern walnut slipper lounge chairs exemplifies the designer’s refined approach to postwar modern furniture. Dating to the mid-20th century, the design pairs a sculpted walnut frame with tailored upholstery, creating a light, elegant silhouette that reflects Robsjohn-Gibbings’ ability to balance classical influence with modern simplicity.

The beautifully shaped walnut frames are a defining feature. Rounded rails flow seamlessly into gently curved legs, while the exposed frame traces the upholstered back and gives the chairs an equally considered appearance from every angle. The armless construction and subtly reclined back create an open profile, complemented by layered seat cushions and button-tufted backrests. The neutral textured upholstery provides a contrast against the walnut’s rich warm finish.

T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings was one of the most influential American furniture designers of the 20th century, celebrated for bringing a distinctly modern interpretation to classical forms. His work for Widdicomb produced some of his most recognizable designs, distinguished by fine craftsmanship, sculptural woodwork, and graceful lines.

With their beautifully executed walnut frames and unmistakable Robsjohn-Gibbings refinement, these chairs represent an exceptional combination of American modern design and enduring craftsmanship.
