Beautiful large-scale vintage Aubusson-style pastoral tapestry depicting a romantic garden landscape with elegantly dressed figures, a parrot, a rooster, abundant flowers, a playful dog chasing duck, foliage, an urn and an idyllic stream. The pastoral scene is framed by an elaborate floral and foliate border and topped with sweeping draped fabric, tassels and garlands, creating the appearance of a grand French decorative textile.

The piece has a substantial woven construction with numerous individual yarns visible along the reverse and appears to have been handwoven or hand-finished. The fiber content has not been professionally tested and is unmarked; wool is a strong possibility given the character of the yarns and the smell (like an old jacket of mine.)

The tapestry measures an impressive 50 inches wide by 72 inches high and is finished with a fabric lining and rod pocket, allowing it to be easily displayed as a wall hanging.

Its romantic pastoral imagery and elaborate floral framing are evocative of 18th-century French Aubusson and Rococo decorative tapestries, while the piece itself is offered as a vintage Aubusson-style tapestry rather than represented as an authenticated antique Aubusson.
