An elegant matching armchair and side chair, provisionally dating to circa 1890–1910, capturing the decorative richness of Rococo Revival furniture. Inspired by the Louis XV tradition, these graceful chairs combine intricate carved ornament with warm wood tones and richly patterned upholstery.
Their distinctive backs feature shaped upholstered upper panels above finely pierced central splats, decorated with scrolling foliage and shell-inspired motifs. Sculpted crest rails and gently curved lower back rails frame the openwork, creating an airy silhouette that allows the carving to stand out beautifully.
Shaped seat rails lead into slender cabriole front legs with carved detailing at the knees. The armchair adds sweeping wooden arms supported by curved uprights, while the accompanying side chair repeats the same decorative vocabulary. Together, they offer a coordinated arrangement with complementary proportions, likely originating from a larger salon suite.
Both chairs are upholstered in gold and olive-green floral jacquard fabric, featuring raised, brocade-like detailing and yellow braided trim. The textile’s warm palette complements the mellow brown finish, giving the pair a distinctive presence in a traditional sitting room, bedroom, library, or thoughtfully layered interior.
The frames appear consistent with walnut, although the wood species, maker, and country of manufacture remain unconfirmed.
Condition: Age-related surface wear, upholstery wear, some cracks and joint separations. These details are documented in the photographs.
A characterful antique pairing, preserving the ornamental charm of turn-of-the-century salon furniture.
