Exceptional antique Weidlich Brothers Manufacturing Co. silver-plated ornamental basket, circa 1890–1910, Bridgeport, Connecticut.
This highly detailed late Victorian basket features an elaborate repoussé-decorated body, ornate scrolling foliage, dimensional figural ornament, and an intricately decorated swing handle. The basket rests on an exceptionally detailed four-footed pedestal base, with the same elaborate decorative treatment continuing throughout the piece.
The basket retains its original pale silk-lined interior with twisted cord trim, an especially charming and uncommon feature that adds to its presentation as a luxurious Victorian vanity or decorative object.
The underside is marked “PAT. APPLIED FOR / U.S.A.”, consistent with documented Weidlich Brothers Manufacturing Co. production. Weidlich Brothers Manufacturing Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was a prominent American producer of elaborate silver-plated and decorative metal wares during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The combination of the extensive repoussé work, figural ornament, elaborate handle, pedestal base, and surviving original textile interior makes this an especially decorative example of Victorian American silver-plated wares.

The silver-plated surface displays areas of oxidation, tarnishing, and finish variation, while the original silk lining and twisted cord trim show age-related wear and discoloration. There are minor imperfections throughout from decades of use and handling. These condition details are part of the charm of the piece and, in my opinion, tell its story and reflect its age and authenticity. The beautiful patina and signs of age have been preserved rather than overly restored, allowing the character and history of this exceptional antique to remain visible.
